Staying Connected to Family in Mexico

Growing up, I spent half of my life living in or visiting Mexico. I didn't just have distant cousins that I only saw once a year when they came to visit Disneyland. I had closer relationships with my family in Mexico. But as I got older (and more Americanized), I spent less and less time South of the Border. When my older kids came along, I took them down to visit often, but they didn't spend every weekend or entire summers there the way I got to. Sadly, they missed out on that sweet opportunity. But now, my oldest daughter wants to reconnect with her roots. She's packing up her meager belongings and leaving them in our garage for the next four months while she goes down to Nayarit to submerge herself in the culture. Her plane ticket has been purchased and soon she'll be meeting up with friends that have already set up housing down there.

Most parents might be freaking out right about now, but honestly, I couldn't be happier for her. She's going to see the Mexico that I got to see, not the Club Med or Breaking News Mexico, but the Mexico that warms your heart with its sounds, sights, and smells. I'm not too worried because, well... she's an adult! And she's been taking care of herself for many years now.

Still, no matter where in the world she is, I'm going to want to keep in touch with her.

Last month, we got Verizon Home Phone Connect service. It's only $19.99 a month and is the same high quality service I've come to love from my Verizon cell service. An added benefit of having a home phone service from Verizon over "the other guys" phone service is the savings we'll see with international calls, in particular, to Mexico. We'll be able to talk to my daughter without worrying about a crazy phone bill every month. On her end, she's keeping her Verizon service with her Global Phone, so she'll be able to make calls without too much worry, either. If you have ever travelled to or tried to connect with family in Mexico before cellular, you know that's a big deal!

Do you make lots of international calls? Check with Verizon to see how the Home Phone Connect option can help you save mucho dinero!

Disclosure: As a Verizon Home Phone Connect Ambassador, I received a free device and I am getting complimentary service for three months to try out it out and let you know what I think about it. So far, so good!
