Recently, I got to meet and chat with Josh Berman, Creator, Writer and Executive Producer of Lifetime TV's Drop Dead Diva. Have you seen this show? In a word, it's...
If you've never seen Drop Dead Diva before, it's about two very different ladies living one life. Deb is a cute little model who, while polishing her nails and driving, meets her demise when she runs into a truck full of grapefruit. Way up on a cloud somewhere, she talks her way into coming back to earth. Kind of like talking yourself out of a ticket, but way more important. Meanwhile, Jane is an attorney who takes a bullet for her boss and is near death on an operating table when Deb the cute little super model takes a wrong turn somewhere and accidentally ends up in Jane.
Best line ever? When Deb wakes up and says, "I feel bloated."
Jane resumes life with Deb's spirit, character, personality, and unending knowledge about fashion while still recalling all those years that she spent in law school and in court. Only Deb's best friend, Stacy and guardian angel, Fred know the real story.
The show is witty, thoughtful, and incredibly creative. I absolutely love that Jane gets to be smart, fabulous, and curvy. I had to know how the idea of Drop Dead Diva came to the show's creator, Josh Berman. Lucky for me, I got to ask him that very question last Friday at the season premier showing at The Grove in Los Angeles.
If you haven't had a chance to see the first episode, you can watch it on myLifetime as well as on Fancast. In the first Episode, Would I Lie to You, Deb/Jane comes out fighting... after a little prodding from her friends. By the end of the episode, you'll be cheering for your new favorite Diva.
What do you think about the new look in fabulous?
