Winter is the time when your skin needs maximum attention. With biting winds, colder temperatures, and drying indoor heat, winter can really suck the life right out of your skin! Here are a few simple tips to keep your skin looking sensational even during these harsh winter months.
Stay Hydrated: Water moisturizes your skin from within so don’t leave your skin thirsty! Unfortunately, we drink less water in the winter, so to make sure you're staying hydrated, carry a bottle of water with you wherever you go. Loading up on omega-3s also boosts hydration, so add some salmon and walnuts to your daily diet.
Avoid Hot Showers: Although the idea of steamy hot shower to warm your cold bones is very tempting, stick to a lukewarm water bath every day. Make sure you use a mild non-drying soap or a moisturising soap to prevent your skin from getting dry and itchy.
Moisturize: Choose a good, oil-based moisturizer to keep the skin moisturized and soft. Pay special attention to the exposed parts (and the most affected areas) like your hands, nails, feet and lips. Keep them well moisturized at all times. Even oily skin needs a moisturizing. Using a light moisturizer will help keep the skin soft.
Use Sunscreen: Just because you're not on the beach frolicking in the sun doesn't mean you're skin isn't being exposed to the sun. Even on cloudy days, use a sunscreen of SPF 15 or more when you step outside. Sunscreen should be a part of your daily routine throughout the year the entire year.
Don't Forget the Lips: Cold dry air can do real damage to sensitive lips. Apply a hydrating lip balm daily, especially when going outside. Look for lip balms that contain ingredients such as beeswax, petroleum jelly, lanolin, shea butter and cocoa butter.
