Smile Care: Why I'm Getting Invisalign

You know what happens when you don't take care of your teeth? This...

Does Amy Winehouse have a great voice? Yes. Does she have bigger problems than missing teeth? Yes. Does that take away from me using her as an example in this post.

I've told you before of my dental issues, and I suppose I could share my own pictures here, but I actually do have some boundaries. I know, right? So anyway... I used Amy here to fill in for me. If you ever saw my throw my head back and smile like that, you might have seen a similar issue.

Missing teeth.

The reason I'm getting Invisalign for myself is not because of a few teeth being slightly askew. Because I didn't have the means to take care of my teeth a lifetime ago, I ended up making the desperate decisions to have teeth removed. I was all ready to have implants put in when I spoke to a dentist that recommended I straighten my bite first. Some of it is cosmetic, but his concern was for the teeth that had begun erupting. No, they weren't exploding. The teeth opposite the ones that were removed now no longer have any teeth to chomp against. So now I have to move those back into place with some frankenstein-ish posts and rubber bands. The other teeth that are around the spaces have also begun to float forward, so those now need to be moved back and away.

It's all very complicated.

Thankfully, with an incredibly talented dental team (ortho, dentist, oral surgeon), I'm getting my smile cared for. In a few short years (they think two to three), I'll be able to smile and chew without worry or pain.

And I'll finally have absolutely nothing in common with Amy Winehouse.

As a member of the Invisalign Mom Advisory Board, I am receiving free orthodontic treatment. I am paying for my own dental work and oral surgery in preparation for my Invisalign braces.
