What My Own "Women {Insert Word}" Autocomplete Search Revealed

Nearly a month after it came out, I read about the UN Women Should campaign. This series of ads, developed for UN Women by Memac Ogilvy & Mather Dubai, uses genuine Google searches to reveal the prevailing sexism and negative sentiments towards women. The search bars and autocompletes are chillingly placed over the mouths of the women pictured.

It's almost laughable that people still think this way, but clearly they do.

My curiosity took over, so I decided to do a few of my own searches. I started with the counter search to the current #womenshould tag: Women Should Not. Here's what I found:

Women Should Not

Then I switched it up a bit and searched Women Should Have:

Women Should Have

After that, I searched "women want," "women can," and "women will." They returned mixed sentiments.

Women Want
Women Can
Women Will

Amid the negative results, (and stupid ones in the case of "women want to be dominated" because oh my god, yes, that's totally what we want... uggg) it was that last one that left me feeling hopeful. Did you catch it?

Your Turn...

What do you think of the ad campaign? What do you think of the results of my search? Have you done your own search? What were the autocompletes?
